Mini landfills experiment

Hello, my name is Devin Rogel, and we are going to make mini landfills.
I am here filling up a container with dirt to prepare. We are comparing what happens when
you put biodegradable material in dirt and if you put non-biodegradable material.

I am here filling up a second container.

We had three containers of dirt, one we will fill with food scrap,
one trash, and one empty as our control.

Here I am chopping up onion slivers to go in one of the containers-
the one with compostables and food scraps. We also put in hard boiled egg shells, broccoli stems,
ground leaves from the inside of a used tea bag, and onion skins.

Here we have some of the dirt containers and all of the food scraps.

This is me mixing up food scraps with the dirt in one of the containers.

We added more food scraps.

We did not get any pictures of us getting trash, but we did. Here we are putting trash
in a container.

This is the trash unmixed. We put in milk carton pieces, the cap and the label, wrappers,
and bits and bobs from an old dog toy made of plastic and cloth, as well as some styrofoam.

And this is the trash semi-mixed!

Here we have one of our three dirt containers.

Here's the one with the trash!

And these are the three finished dirt buckets. We're finally done!
We plan to check on them every week to see how they are doing, meaning
how much composts and their moisture. We also plan to mix them while checking on them,
and we will see what happens! we keep them in a cupboard in the garage, each on a separate shelves to hopefully not spread mold. We will post new blogs for updates!
