If Three's a Crowd...

What's four?  A multitude?  Feels that way sometimes.  Getting ready for this wedding, for example.  I actually took time to put on make-up and dry my hair.  Allen packed the diaper bag and dressed the baby.  I packed snacks.  Liam dressed himself.  But no one combed his hair or made sure he didn't have breakfast on his face.  And no one (not me anyway) thought to do the husband-dressed-appropriately check.  Male comedians have been known to bewail their wives' over-control of their wardrobes, but if I'd checked sooner I would have told Allen to wear his dress shoes instead of his every-day ones and he would have agreed with me.

And this baby.  When does he get to be the center of attention?  Not as often as his older brother did, that's for sure.  But he does get lavished with love and attention from his older brother, which maybe makes up for it.  As long as I can convince Liam that finger and knee joints are only supposed to bend in certain directions and that babies have very sensitive hearing so there's no need to shout in their ears.

Devin is thriving anyway.  He recently started noticing images on flat surfaces - his face in the mirror, Grammy and Grandpa on the computer while Skyping.  He also is more interested in objects - reaching for and holding on to them.  Liam likes to hold his head within Devin's reach and then keep a running commentary (imagine that) of what Devin is grabbing.

Grab object, move toward mouth is the current most common sequence.  Those teeth, which I thought were just faking us out, seem to be on the move again and he is more motivated than ever to use his mouth to discover the world.

And yes, my dresser drawers are hanging open and my laundry is drying in the background.  Just keeping it real, folks.  I've heard that no one, at the end of their life, ever said, "I wish I'd cleaned more."  It's possible, however, that mine may be the first generation to say, at the end of our lives, "I wish I had not posted such revealing pictures on the internet."
"Seriously lady, do you have to use the flash?"
I'm trying to get him to take a nap, but his diaper needs to be changed and while I'm trying to convince myself to do that the phone rings and when I'm done with that I remember that the diapers need to go into the dryer so I have to fold the load already in it.
Then I totally forget about the diaper in favor of getting a selfie that demonstrates the baby's new-found delight in mirrors.  Most of them just showed how interested he was in the camera, so this was about the best one.

I did eventually remember to change his diaper, by the way.
And here's a sequence that shows his continuing pursuit of mobility.  It's mostly controlled falling right now, but it's definitely not accidental.  First of all he pulls his head forward, turning himself into the worlds largest bobble head doll.
 Then he leans.
"Hey girl..."

So now that there are twenty minutes until we need to leave to pick Liam up he's finally asleep.  Maybe he'll sleep later while I'm at Liam's parent/teacher conference and Allen's home with the boys.  Or better yet, maybe he'll sleep tonight so I can get some sleep too.
