The Weekend and Speaking too Soon

The other day Devin fell asleep propped up against my legs in bed.  This was pretty important to me because usually, especially in the evenings, falling asleep has required me to pull out just about every trick I can think of.  We've had hours-long evening efforts involving the baby swing, the sling, the stroller, walking around the house, walking outside, nursing.... So when he fell asleep without all this three ring circus I was happy.  I even announced it on Facebook and turned the computer off.  Which seemed to have been a mistake.  Seconds later I had this face looking up at me:

I tried making it into this face, but that didn't really help.

Soon I had this face, although for some reason I had adjusted the setting on the camera and made the picture fuzzier.  Thankfully some nursing and snuggling got him back to sleep.

Allen had his first curling event of the year this weekend.  We weren't sure if he was going to participate because it was a "Bonspeil" which means several games over a couple of days.  It seemed like that was going to be a long time during the weekend for me to be alone with the boys.  But in the end they needed him to fill out a team and Liam was able to spend most of Saturday with his friend Roger - and family.  Devin took a long stroller nap in the afternoon.  By which I mean I put him in the stroller and put the stroller on the porch and he fell asleep.  I used to have an alarm clock that made white noise that sounded like crickets.  It broke a long time ago.  I need something like that now because going outside and hearing that sound puts Devin to sleep very quickly.  Sometimes I can even just put him by the screen door and it will settle him down although we kind of have to actually be outside to get the full effect. Which kind of begs the question of whether the imitation noises would actually work.

This weekend was also "Black Swamp Arts Festival" and Liam and his friend made a stop there.  They also went to "STEM in the Park" which is an event held every year to provide fun activities in "Science, Technology, Engineering and Math" for kids.  Also there are vendors and a free lunch.  We've gone other years.  I don't have any pictures of all these events, but  I do have a shot of some of the loot Liam got and the art he made.

The cup has cement in it.  Liam told me that we could probably make cement.  When I asked him why it seemed to fall into the "because we can" category.  I didn't hear much about the actual STEM events other than that the line was so long for lunch that they went home and had hotdogs there instead.  Today when we were Skyping with Grammy and Grandpa I found out that there were solar powered Legos and a robot that followed your hand.

You can also see Devin in his stroller nap setup here.  He completely slept through the time that our friends were here waiting to be picked up.  Which was quite an achievement since it included a really loud meltdown by Liam.  His friend had started to draw an underwater scene with sharks and Liam thought it should include a swordfish and added it to the scene.  But his friend didn't like anyone adding to his work so he scribbled it out.  Liam was inconsolable.  He told me later that he had been storing up tears all day and his eyes and head were small so he had to let some out.

The artwork is, naturally from the art festival.  I was going to get some pictures of that today since we hung around at church for a while but forgot.  Our church had a goal of giving away one thousand free hotdogs and I think they probably managed it.

I had a migraine Thursday and since that time Devin has seemed calmer, had less crying when pooping, and slept more - especially during the day.  Also he seems to be falling asleep easier.  I REALLY hope this lasts.  My theory is that the migraine was triggered by a change in hormones and the hormones were bugging his tummy.  I still haven't tried dairy again though.  I'm kind of scared.

Allen's team won their first two games and lost the third.

We've been getting lots more smiles from Devin but they are fleeting and hard to catch on camera.
