Play Update

So I realize I haven't posted since before the play.  I put pictures up on Facebook, but I do have some readers who aren't on there, so I'll put some up here.  Besides, this is supposed to be a more official record.  So here you go:

This was taken during the final dress rehearsal.  As it turned out I stayed for that while Allen went grocery shopping.  There was a critic from a local newspaper watching so I was nervous about whether Devin would be quiet enough.  He was fine, although the laughing and clapping really cut in on his napping.
Liam thought this picture made it look like he was flying.  He was really excited about wearing a costume.  Most of it was his own clothes, and the wings made it tricky for all those "baby angels" to fit onto the riser, but he still loved it.
This was a play about a play.  The character who plays the "Angel of the Lord" who comes to the shepherds was a pretty funny part.  Someone made these cookies in her honor.

The play ran Thursday and Friday evenings, and Saturday afternoon and evening.  This picture was taken Thursday evening by Allen.
I took Devin in this outfit on Friday night.  We snapped a quick picture that night to commemorate the  cuteness before it got dirty or he grew out of it.  Allen and I took turns going to performances so save money on tickets and also for time management reasons.

The play sold out Friday.  They put up extra seats along the sides and back for people who showed up to buy tickets at the door.

Mom and Dad and Granny came to the Saturday afternoon performance.  They didn't get to see Liam before the show since he had to arrive and get in costume an hour early.  The weather was terrible that day - it snowed most of the day.
Just seeing Grammy and Grandpa for a few hours - combined with the final performances of the play was hard on Liam.  He made it through most of the day with smiles, but there were a few tears too.
Yeah, I look a little tired in this picture.  There's a reason for that.
The cast party was Sunday afternoon.  One last chance to see all the new friends.  Liam was very interested in the fact that this cake had clearly been printed on.
Same design as his cast T-shirt in fact.
Here he is getting a poster signed by one of the directors.  He ended up being allowed to keep his halo.  They are talking about possibly doing the play again next year, but either they thought the halos wouldn't store well or they want to do something different next year.  The fact that they stuck up a couple inches and were so fluffy did present a few blocking challenges!

Unfortunately, Mom and Dad and Granny had an accident on their way home from the play Saturday.  Granny ended up spending the night at the hospital with some broken ribs and bruising and lots of pain.  Allen took them all part of the way home Sunday since the car had rolled and could not be driven.  As of yesterday Granny was still having lots of pain and needing to take medication.

Liam is excited about doing more plays, but there aren't many parts for five-year-olds.  We are trying to figure out an activity he can do starting in January.  Possibly something that will increase his chances of getting roles when he gets a little older.  He said he hopes he gets to be in another play with one friend he made because that boy has a "Kindle Fire."  I asked if he would be interested in plays if there were no Kindle Fires and he said yes, they were not a "requirement."
