Dinner Conversations

Tonight we had French toast for supper.  Naturally, Liam wanted to know if it really came from "French."  I explained that I didn't know because lots of things that are called "French" don't really come from France.  Allen said, "We'll have to look it up on the computer after supper."  Liam said, "Yeah, Google it."  In case you're interested, it seems that the name was applied simply because the dish was popularized in America by French immigrants.  If you want more details, feel free to Google it.

Also at supper Liam wanted to know how long it is until the baby comes.  Since the calendar has already been switched to June I told him that we had all the days on that page, plus all the days on the next page up to the space that has two twos on it.  "Oh," he says, "the twenty -twoth day."  Right.  Then he sat staring intently at the calendar page for several minutes moving his mouth.  Eventually he says, "There are forty-four days until the baby comes."  Actually, there are more like 54 until the due date, but my guess is that he counted the days up until 22 two times.  A pretty mean math achievement if you ask me!
